Day 4

This is the closest I can get to a sunrise photo with all the trees here.
We are hiking the Spillway Loop Trail today.
There will be lots of pics because it’s just so beautiful and I couldn’t choose so just scroll on through at your own pace.

We follow the Mountain Fork River on this trail

Words can’t describe God’s creation.

There was much tricky walking along the river and up the mountain, with one area of wash out that was scary enough that no one was getting their camera out. All hands on walking sticks and ground for support.

The reason for this pic is we were not supposed to be on the Friends Trail.

Is that the trail or does it go that way? The Spillway trail was not marked at all and there were many divergent trails from which to choose.

Can’t really tell there’s a drop off behind us.

Known as purple twining pea, vine lilac or sarsaparilla

Amazing reflection of the trees in the river
Climbed over some trees and under others.

Do you think the trail is down there?

Going for it!

Vicki was always our voice of encouragement, telling us how much she enjoyed that scenery when we were off trail.

There were rocks an’ rocks a’ roots to trip over.

Finally a sign for our trail. The only one we saw.

We crossed over the dam and then walked up the other side of the river.

Treacherous stepping

Pulling up my socks. My boots have worked out great but they sure like to eat my socks.

Incredible rock formations
Was facing the sun when taking this pic so it’s kind of fuzzy

Cat’s foot, pussy toes or everlasting
Iceland moss or Iceland lichen

I don’t think y’all are going the right way.

But I’m walking cross country with you anyway.
We did do a bit of wandering but our trail leader Kody got us right back on track.
We saw quite a few fishermen when we got close to the spillway.

Had several water crossings.
Pretty sure this is where Kody picked up a tick.

Headed back to the car

Our trail stats today
Had lunch at the Blue Rooster. It was a bit overpriced. Could be why it was empty.
Back at the ranch, this took some doing.
Enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
Had dinner at Shuck Me

Came back to finish out the Yahtzee card we started last night.

This has been a most amazing trip.
We have laughed so much, cried (but that was because of a movie), shared, experienced God’s magnificent creation, His blessings on our time together, good food (some not so good) and a great time of rest.
For those who’ve been holding down the fort while we’re gone, thank you!
